In September 2007 I took delivery of a new Skoda Octavia Est. L&G with the
Sat Nav option. Although the Skoda Sat Nav has TMC (Traffic Message Channel)
to show road delays, the car was shipped with a non-TMC disc, very helpful.
Skoda sent a TMC enabled disc, but the disc was faulty in that all UK "B"
roads were displayed and announced as "A" roads, very confusing!!!

I waited until late June 2008, when a new disc arrived, but this disc shows
all UK "A" roads as "B" roads, and even more weird some Motorways as "B"
roads, even more confusing !!!!

Now, 9 months after I took delivery, Skoda (and TeleAtlas) are still
thinking about how to resolve the problem. Surely factory fitted Sat Nav
systems should be better than this and what happened to quality control ??

Other than a lack of nickability, I'm not sure why anyone would spec built
in spack nav. You might as well buy one and not have to suffer whatever
shite the manufacturer picked, along with stupidly expensive / difficult to
get updates.

Several years ago I decided to stop bothering with factory-fitted GPS units,
and bought a stand-alone Garmin unit instead. I quickly realized the enormous
advantages of the transferrable unit. OK, it's not quite as neat as the
built-in unit but it's a fraction of the cost, and map updates are much
cheaper as well. You can take it with you if you change your car, and if
anything goes wrong it can be repaired (sometimes) or if not replaced.

For what it's worth, I find that the NavTeq maps used by Garmin are very
accurate on the whole. I've very rarely come across any serious errors in
this country. In France it sometimes gets one way streets wrong, but not very
often.

That's not a common problem - most of them work just fine.
Wander over to briskoda.net and ask on the forum there to see if anyone has
seen it.
It may just be something that needs recoding on the stereo
