Is Parkers Price guide any good? The real prices I see advertised on
autotader website seem way higher than what Parkers say they should
be.

Are there any other online price guides, preferably free to use.

Of course sellers advertise at a higher price, expecting to be haggled
down. Also Parkers doesn't reflect regional variations.

They're not "real" prices - they're the level at which the dealer would
like you to start haggling.

I always go by Autotrader for current prices, as these are the prices
that people are actually asking for and selling cars at (most of them,
some people ask some silly prices, but they drop it next week after no
calls). Sometimes, Parkers and Glassess (spelling) say something is
worth, £5000, but you never see them going for that in AT, you see
them at £4500 or £4000, so this is a more realistic price. Can go the
other way as well. Normally, this is on the more specialist type of
cars, where they seems to be at least a grand either way on the prices
the guide says and the prices that they are actually selling for. As
for your mainstream cars, there fairly close, but like I said, I'd go
by AT.

Depends where in the country you live. Best bet is to buy a copy of your
local free-ads paper and see what similar cars are being advertised at then
price yours accordingly.

I agree. Parkers can be used as an indication how certain cars vary but, in
common with other guides, can be £1,000 out either way! Use the local paper
as a guide to see how your region compares with the guide.

We recently bought a car in the trade for more than 'book' retail and sold
it for far more than that. Equally, I took in a T Reg Peug 106 without power
steering for £800 under book yesterday.
